IGP Disu Clarifies Directive, Orders Streamlining of Police Tactical Units

The Nigeria Police Force has debunked widespread reports claiming that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu , ordered the disbandment of all police tactical units across state commands nationwide. In an official statement issued on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid , the police described the circulating reports as a “misrepresentation” of the IGP’s directive. According to the statement, the IGP did not order a blanket dissolution of tactical squads. Instead, he directed a strategic reduction and restructuring of such units to address concerns over their proliferation and alleged misconduct. The police chief acknowledged growing public unease about the activities of tactical teams, particularly those created independently by Commissioners of Police and other formation heads.
