Lagos Tops as Nigeria's Best-Performing Sub-National in State Performance Index Ratings

Lagos State has emerged Nigeria’s best-performing sub-national in the 2025 State Performance Index (pSPI), leading other states by wide margins across all sectors. This was revealed in the latest ranking released by Phillips Consulting Limited, Nigeria’s leading business and management consulting firm, Lagos is ranked number one  in the National Assessment Report out of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja in the Overall pSPI Rank, based on continued strength across key governance and economic indicators. The 2025 State Performance Index (pSPI) identifies Lagos as Top Revenue Performer, stating that "Lagos ranks 1st in IGR per capita, per km², and per trade route." It also ranked Lagos as second in internet penetration and digital access. The Lagos State Government says it has expanded office accommodation for public servants by an additional 19,525 square metres to improve operational efficiency, enhance service delivery, and reduce reliance on rented office spaces.   The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, has reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment and economic development with the successful graduation of participants from the Technical, Vocational and Educational Training (TVET) Programme. The graduation ceremony, themed “Empowering the Youths: From Knowledge to Income,” marked the successful completion of a six-week intensive vocational training programme designed to equip participants with practical, entrepreneurial, and income-generating skills. Sanwo-Olu Hails LASU’s Status as Top Choice University in 2026 UTME Rankings

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has hailed the status of the Lagos State University, LASU as the top choice university in Nigeria, revealed in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) rankings. Sanwo-Olu described the feat as a reflection of the state government’s sustained investment in quality education and institutional development. According to figures released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), LASU attracted 84,426 applicants to claim the status of the most preferred tertiary institution in the country, ahead of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), which recorded 78,240 applicants.
