Rotary Club New Oko-Oba Metropolitan Installs New President, Unveils Solar-Powered Borehole Project
...Omoniyi pledges stronger leadership development, community partnerships
The Rotary Club (RC) of New
Oko-Oba Metropolitan, District 9111, has installed Rotarian Monsuru Omoniyi as
its 5th President for the 2026/2027 Rotary year, with the new administration
unveiling a solar-powered borehole project as its presidential star project.
Omoniyi was installed during the club’s investiture ceremony and induction of board members, held at Royal Ascots Events & Suites, Abule Egba, Lagos, where he pledged to strengthen leadership development, membership, community partnerships and humanitarian interventions.
The event attracted top officials and stakeholders within Rotary District 9111, including Assistant Governor, Rotarian Emmanuel Eneh (Rotary Club of Agege); Past Assistant Governor, Rotarian Muftau Adelotan (Rotary Club of Oregun); and other Impact Presidents. Also in attendance were the Royal Father of the Day, High Chief of New Oko-Oba, Prince Ajibola Arowolo; Chairman of the Day, Comrade Lion ESV. Adekunle Mabogaje; as well as captains of industry, Rotarians, community leaders and other dignitaries.
Speaking during the ceremony, the new president described access to clean and reliable water as fundamental to human dignity, public health and community development, saying the proposed solar-powered borehole would provide a sustainable water source for the New Oko-Oba community.
He called on Rotarians, community leaders, corporate organisations, government agencies, philanthropists and other well-meaning individuals to partner with the club to bring the project to fruition.
According to him, the objective was not merely to provide another infrastructure project, but to establish a facility that the community could use, maintain and benefit from for many years.
“When a child gains easier access to clean water, when a mother spends less time searching for water, and when families have a dependable water source, we are not merely providing infrastructure — we are improving lives,” Omoniyi said.
He also pledged to create opportunities for members to develop leadership skills, take up responsibilities and prepare for future service, stressing that the club must continue to produce leaders capable of making positive contributions to Rotary and society.
Immediate Past President (IPP) highlights achievements
The new administration takes over from Rotarian Olasoji Jegede, IPP, whose tenure was anchored on the theme “Unite for Good”, with emphasis on collaboration and community impact.
In his farewell address, IPP Jegede expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the club, noting that the presidency was not merely about occupying a position but accepting the responsibility to serve, lead, listen and make a difference.
Among the major projects recorded during his administration was the establishment of a school library at New Oko-Oba Primary School.
Jegede said the project was designed to give pupils greater access to books and create opportunities for them to learn, dream and broaden their horizons.
The club also implemented a Maternal and Child Health programme at P&G Hospital, Abule Egba, while joining other Rotary clubs in the area in activities aimed at supporting the global fight to end polio.
Reflecting on the achievements of his administration, Jegede stressed that the accomplishments belonged to the entire club rather than one individual.
“My dear Rotarians, when we look back at this Rotary year, we should not look at it as the year of one President. It was OUR year,” he said.
A new chapter for the club
Earlier, Chairman of the Investiture Planning Committee, Rotarian Saka Mohammed, described the occasion as a celebration of leadership, continuity, service and renewed commitment to humanity.
Mohammed said the Rotary Club of New Oko-Oba Metropolitan had continued to grow in membership, visibility and impact since its establishment, with successive presidents and members contributing their time, resources and talents to advancing the ideals of Rotary.
He described Omoniyi’s installation as both a continuation of the club’s legacy and the beginning of a new chapter.
“Leadership in Rotary is not about occupying a position. It is about accepting a responsibility,” Mohammed said, urging members to continue supporting the new administration as it begins its service year.
The ceremony also featured the induction of the club’s board members for the 2026/2027 Rotary year, marking the formal commencement of Omoniyi’s tenure. Merit awards were presented to deserving members, while a number of entertaining side attractions added colour and excitement to the occasion, rounding off the investiture on a memorable note.
