Isese Day: Lagos Declares Work-Free Day on Wednesday August 20
The Lagos State Government has declared Wednesday, August 20, 2025, as a work-free day for public servants in commemoration of this year’s Isese Day celebration.
In a circular signed by the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, the State Government reaffirmed its commitment to promoting indigenous culture, tradition, and heritage while extending support to traditional institutions across Lagos.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved the holiday, emphasizing the importance of cultural preservation and recognition of Lagos’ rich traditional values. The annual Isese Day is celebrated to honour the state’s ancestral heritage, traditional institutions, and cultural practices.
All public offices in the state will be closed on Wednesday to allow public servants participate in the celebration. Work will resume on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 8:00 a.m, according to the official notice.
The Head of Service also directed all accounting officers to ensure the circular is given wide publicity across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
With this declaration, Lagos reinforces her commitment to the importance of cultural identity and heritage preservation in governance.
