Lagos Comes Alive as Thousands Mark International Day of Friendship

The Biggest Friendship Festival held  in Lagos In a bid to create an atmosphere where people can connect and socialize with the aim of reviving true friendship, the Biggest Friendship Festival, formerly known as the BFF Conference, hosted a large forum to celebrate the International Day of Friendship.   The Festival, a brainchild of a social reformer and impact strategist, Adetoun Jegede, convener of the Building Forever Friendships (BFF) Lifestyle Community, organised the event held on August 2, 2025, at the Alpha Hall in Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos, with over 7,500 attendees physically and more than 3,000 virtually.   According to Adetoun, who is also the author of The BFF Book, she highlighted the need to promote friendship, foster unity, and create awareness of the importance of friendship in building a better society. Isese Day: Lagos Declares Work-Free Day on Wednesday August 20

The Lagos State Government has declared Wednesday, August 20, 2025, as a work-free day for public servants in commemoration of this year’s Isese Day celebration. In a circular signed by the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, the State Government reaffirmed its commitment to promoting indigenous culture, tradition, and heritage while extending support to traditional institutions across Lagos. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved the holiday, emphasizing the importance of cultural preservation and recognition of Lagos’ rich traditional values. The annual Isese Day is celebrated to honour the state’s ancestral heritage, traditional institutions, and cultural practices. All public offices in the state will be closed on Wednesday to allow public servants participate in the celebration. Work will resume on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 8:00 a.m, according to the official notice. The Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has lauded President Bola Tinubu’s administration for stabilizing Nigeria’s economy through early reforms, describing the efforts as a step in the right direction. FG condemns leakage of Ibom Air Passenger Video, Reads Riot Act on Flight Safety

The Federal Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN, has strongly condemned the public release of the sensitive footage of the unruly Ibom Air passenger — showing moments of indecent exposure. The incident occurred in a violent altercation between a passenger  identified as Ms. Comfort Emmanson (also known as Comfort Bob)   with the flight crew of Ibom Air and ground staff on August 10, 2025, during Ibom Airline Flight Q153 from Uyo to Lagos .  The confrontation began after she allegedly refused to switch off her mobile phone during take-off, violating International Civil Aviation Regulations. The Minister in a statement released on his X-platform on Monday labelled it as “totally unacceptable” and “a debasing of womanhood.” Keyamo said: “We will not fold our arms and tolerate such violations. Super Falcons wins their 10th CAF Women AFCON Trophy

The Super Falcons has won the 10th title of the Women African Cup of Nations by beating the Host, Morroco 3-2 in  the final played at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat. The Falcons were loosing 2-0 to the host in the first 45mins but came back in the second half through a Penalty, a handball committed by a Morrocan defender. The Nigerian female side then equalised later on and with the winning goal coming at the closing stages of the match. In the opening preliminary stages for the Falcons, they thrashed their Tunisian counterpart 3-0, while Botswana was beaten by 1-nil and then, played a barren draw with Algeria. Qualifying to the quarterfinals as the group leader, they thrashed the Zambian side 5-0. It was such a pursuit that took Chidi from his beloved Imo State on the other side of the River Niger to the heartland of Esan kingdom in Edo State. The traffic logjam on the head-bridge at Onitsha meant nothing to him, neither was he distracted by the ebbs and the flows of the waters of the Niger River. His gaze was set on one thing alone: the love of his life. In this, he was like Mary, whom the Lord said had “chosen what is better, which will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:42). Chidi got his prized jewel, thus confirming the truism embedded in the lyrics of Bongos Ikwue’s evergreen song, “I’ve been searching for, for true love. I’m gonna keep right on searching till I find…” A search that diligent can only be consummated in an equally captivating fashion. Little wonder...
