Super Falcons wins their 10th CAF Women AFCON Trophy
The Super Falcons has won the 10th title of the Women African Cup of Nations by beating the Host, Morroco 3-2 in the final played at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
The Falcons were loosing 2-0 to the host in the first 45mins but came back in the second half through a Penalty, a handball committed by a Morrocan defender. The Nigerian female side then equalised later on and with the winning goal coming at the closing stages of the match.
In the opening preliminary stages for the Falcons, they thrashed their Tunisian counterpart 3-0, while Botswana was beaten by 1-nil and then, played a barren draw with Algeria. Qualifying to the quarterfinals as the group leader, they thrashed the Zambian side 5-0.
The Falcons met their fierce rivals, South Africa whom were the Cup holders in the Semis and in the keenly contested match - the Nigerian side were the victors with a 2-1 scoreline.
With this winning, the Super Falcons will get themselves the new prize money of the tournament - USD 1,000, 000 while Morroco gets USD 500,000.
