SANWO-OLU TO OFFICIALLY OPENS NEW ROADS IN AGEGE, IGANDO, IKOTUN
Lagos State is set to add another milestone to its growing list of infrastructural achievements as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu prepares to commission new set of roads tomorrow, Wednesday.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, the commissioning is part of the state government’s broader efforts to ease traffic congestion, improve community access, and drive inclusive economic growth.
Omotoso revealed that in the past few months alone, the Sanwo-Olu administration has completed and handed over 36 roads and 5 strategic bridges to Lagos residents.
Among the new projects to be commissioned is the reconstructed Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road (formerly Old Dopemu Road)—a critical bypass that links Akowonjo Road, Old Ipaja Road, and the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. The road, which cuts across Agege and Alimosho LGAs, serves as a vital route for thousands of commuters daily and was executed by the Lagos State Public Works Corporation.
Also on the list is the newly completed Abaranje Road in Igando-Ikotun LCDA. Abaranje Road is a key artery in Alimosho, Lagos’s most populated local government area, and serves as the main access route for many communities within Igando. Its upgrade marks a significant improvement in road quality, safety, and travel efficiency in the area.
“These projects reflect Mr. Governor’s vision of sustainable urban development. The delivery of these roads has not only improved connectivity but also reduced travel time, eliminated perennial flooding, and boosted intermodal transport,” Omotoso said.
Residents in the affected communities have already begun to feel the positive impact, with local businesses experiencing better patronage and daily commuters enjoying smoother, safer journeys.
The commissioner added that the Sanwo-Olu-led administration remains undeterred in its infrastructure push, despite the economic headwinds facing governments globally.
“Mr. Governor and his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, made deliberate decisions to complete projects that would unlock mobility, reduce stress, and ultimately improve quality of life for Lagosians.”
The commissioning takes place tomorrow, another testament to the Governor’s resolve to make Lagos a truly 21st-century city—where modern infrastructure meets the needs of its growing population.
