Deadly BRT Crash: Drivers, Passengers Killed in Dopemu Head-On Collision


Lagos, Nigeria – June 20, 2025

A fatal accident involving two BRT buses occurred this evening, today on the Dopemu BRT lanealong the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, causing significant disruption and loss of life.

According to an eyewitness report, the two buses collided head-on while traveling in opposite directions. The impact was so severe that it crushed the drivers' compartments and the windshields of both buses. Tragically, both drivers and several passengers seated directly behind them reportedly died instantly.

Emergency responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency's LRU (Lagos Response Unit) have since arrived at the scene and are currently towing the damaged vehicles away.

Motorists and commuters heading towards Iyana-Ipaja from Oshodi are advised to avoid the BRT corridor and use alternative public transport routes until the scene is cleared and traffic flow restored.
