Matheus Cunha Fulfils Premier League Dream with £62.5m Move to Manchester United
Brazil
international, Matheus Cunha has officially joined Manchester United from
Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth £62.5 million, completing one of the
early marquee signings of the summer transfer window.
United triggered the release clause in Cunha’s Wolves contract earlier this month, with the move now finalized following the successful completion of his medical and visa requirements. The 25-year-old forward has signed a five-year deal at Old Trafford, with an option to extend for a further year.
Speaking on his move, Cunha described the
transfer as a lifelong dream fulfilled.
“It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a
Manchester United player,” he said. “Ever since I was a child in Brazil
watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother’s house, United was my
favourite English team and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt.
I want to thank my family and everyone who
has helped me make that dream a reality.”
Cunha arrives at United following an impressive
stint at Wolves, where he netted 31 goals in 76 appearances across all
competitions after joining from Atletico Madrid in 2023.
United’s Director of Football, Jason Wilcox,
praised the club’s swift action in securing the signing.
“Bringing in Matheus was one of our main
priorities for this summer, so we are delighted to have completed his signing
so early in the window,” said Wilcox.
Cunha is expected to add pace, creativity,
and a clinical edge to United’s attacking options as the club looks to strengthen
ahead of the new Premier League season.
