Sanwo-Olu joins Troost-Ekong Foundation Charity Match, Pledges Continued Support for Youth Empowerment through Sports
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday joined football fans and philanthropists at the Troost-Ekong Foundation Charity Match held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.

The event, tagged #PlayForPurpose, was led by Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong and aimed at using football as a platform to uplift underprivileged children and promote social development.
In show of support, Governor Sanwo-Olu not only attended the match but also briefly showcased his own football skills on the pitch—drawing cheers from the crowd and participants alike.
The Governor, on his X-platform wrote: “Today, I attended the Troost-Ekong Foundation Charity Match at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan and I even showed off a bit of my football skills on the pitch.
“This initiative, #PlayForPurpose, led by Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong, is about using football as a force for good, supporting underprivileged children and creating opportunities where hope may be limited.”

“As Governor, I remain committed to investing in sports not just as recreation, but as a tool for youth empowerment, social development, and community impact,” he added.
The charity match brought together celebrities, ex-football stars, and fans in a festive atmosphere that blended entertainment with advocacy. Proceeds from the event are expected to go toward supporting disadvantaged youth across Lagos and beyond.
The Troost-Ekong Foundation, founded by the Nigeria international defender, is known for its work in creating access to life-changing resources for young people through the power of sport.
