It's Done! De Bruyne Joins Napoli after Decade-Long Spell at Manchester City

Kevin De Bruyne has completed a high-profile move to Serie A champions Napoli, bringing an end to a glittering 10-year career at Manchester City.

The 33-year-old Belgian midfielder joins Napoli on a free transfer, rejecting an offer from Major League Soccer, MLS side - Chicago Fire in favour of continuing his career at the highest level in Europe. The switch reunites him with the UEFA Champions League next season and places him under the guidance of newly appointed Napoli head coach, Antonio Conte, formerly of Chelsea and Tottenham.

Napoli confirmed De Bruyne’s arrival with a dramatic social media post featuring a computer-generated image of the midfielder seated on a throne wearing a crown, captioned: "King Kev is here."

De Bruyne leaves Manchester City as one of the most decorated players in the club’s history. Since his arrival from Wolfsburg in 2015, he amassed 19 major trophies, including:

·         6 Premier League titles

·         5 League Cups

·         2 FA Cups

·         1 UEFA Champions League title (2023)

He played a key role in City’s historic 2022–23 campaign, which saw them complete a Treble—only the second English side ever to do so, following Manchester United in 1999.

His departure was confirmed before the end of the Premier League season, with an emotional farewell at the Etihad Stadium after City's home game against Bournemouth in May. De Bruyne made a final appearance in City colours against Fulham before the curtain closed on his Premier League journey.

“It’s been unbelievable to have the 10 years that I had with everything that happened here,” De Bruyne said in his farewell message.

“It was a joy working really hard to try and help create something that brought the club the success we enjoyed. I'm super proud to have played a part in that.”

“Manchester has been my home and my family's home for these past 10 years,” De Bruyne added.

De Bruyne joins a Napoli midfield that also features former Premier League talents Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour, as the club looks to defend their Serie A title and make a strong push in Europe.

With Manchester City and Napoli both set to compete in the Champions League next season, a reunion on the continental stage remains a tantalising possibility.
